INTERNATIONAL WALK TO SCHOOL MONTH

IWALK (International Walk to School Month) is a worldwide event that happens every October where children, parents, teachers and community members participate in walking to school together – all for various reasons – health benefits, environmental awareness and to create a community where it is safe to walk.

Programs such as the Active & Safe Routes to school, are joint community efforts to promote walking.  “Active & Safe Routes to School is a national movement dedicated to children’s mobility, health, and happiness.” The program uses methods such as the ‘Walking School Bus’ where parents take turns walking kids to school.   The program also has Winter Walk Day ideas for colder weather and a number of other fun ideas to get your kids active and happy.

Take your kids for a walk – teach them how to be safe in their communities, get some fresh air and get moving!
